- Concrete Best Practices
Fear of powdered admixtures clumping in the concrete mix is not something that has come up much, as many knowledgeable buyers will automatically dismiss it as unsubstantiated. However, I have seen the odd rumor floating around the internet lately regarding “clumping”, and wanted to provide some peace of mind regarding our Krystol Internal Membrane (KIM) waterproofing admixture for concrete.
KIM has been formulated to facilitate easy dispersion in concrete. Being hydrophilic, it is not prone to clumping in concrete the way that a hydrophobic water repellent material would. If one were to dismiss a product solely due to its powder form due to the risk of clumping, one can argue that cement, the major component in concrete will do the same.
The fine powders of KIM, are beneficial to the workability and slump. Rigorous and sufficient mixing at the batching plant will ensure that no clumping will occur.
