Currently, 40% of the world’s cement production is consumed by China. With more than 350 million people projected to move to China’s cities in the next 15 years, the amount of needed infrastructure will increase.
As China prepares for this ever-increasing density, the country is looking to the future of its infrastructure and sustainability is a rising concern. To address this, the China Sustainable Energy Program created a sub-program called Sustainable Cities with the goal to reduce carbon emissions and air pollution in new and existing cities.
These goals have been adopted by the Ready-Mix Concrete Conference in Shanghai this June. This conference will bring together ready-mix producers, concrete manufacturers, and additive suppliers alike, to discuss advanced techniques for manufacturing greener, more sustainable concrete structures. In addition, they will explore sustainable development as a whole, and look for ways in which to work together, and share information to create a system which can be used to create a better, more efficient system for infrastructure development.
Initiatives such as these around the world show us that Green Building not just a “now” topic. It absolutely will be the future of infrastructure. Products which have been around for decades, such as Crystalline Admixtures for concrete waterproofing, can show a proven track record of helping to create sustainable infrastructure around the world.
